Coffee Body Scrub

Coffee Body Scrub

Part of trying to live a more unprocessed life is not only about what you put on the inside but also about what you put on the outside.  Your skin can absorb 60% of what we apply to it and the chemicals in those products can be absorbed into your bloodstream.  Scary stuff.  One great solution to unprocessed beauty products is to make them yourself.  Not only is it great for your skin but it can also save you a TON of money.  Money that can go back into buying more of those healthy organic foods perhaps.

Where I work has a coffee shop and one of the baristas gave her friend a coffee ground body scrub for her birthday.  I thought this was a brilliant idea and wanted to share it with all of you too.  Reduce, reuse, recycle.  Remember that slogan?  Using coffee grounds in this body scrub is not only a great way to repurpose something that could otherwise be trash but it is really great for your skin as well.  I have been feeding my coffee grounds to my garden but who knew I could be using it to feed my skin?

Coffee grounds….

-contain antioxidants that can reduce swelling and inflammation

– exfoliates gently which can remove dead skin and leave your skin smoother and brighter (the sugar helps with this as well)

-contain caffeine which can help promote blood flow and circulation which may temporarily reduce cellulite

The coconut oil serves a great purpose as well. Not only does it act as a binder for the coffee and sugar but it is also an amazing moisturizer for your skin.  It sinks in deep, conditions, moisturizes, and softens your skin.  Unlike a lot of other commercial lotions, is only contains one all natural ingredient.  When your skin absorbs coconut oil, it helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  This 3 ingredient Coffee Body Scrub can help improve your skin and save you money.  Give it a try and let me know what you think!
