Aluminum Stinks: Make Your Own Deodorant

I have noticed on television lately some jokes about how people smell when they use a natural deodorant.  The jokes imply that when people use natural, aluminum free deodorant that they smell bad.

DIY Deodorant

Aluminum in deodorant acts to close the pores in your underarm which prevents sweat.  Aluminum has been pretty controversial and many people believe that using these deodorants are linked to breast cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.  Now I am not going to argue that to be true or not but keep in mind that our skin absorbs 60% of the products used topically.  These ingredients absorb directly into the bloodstream.  Your skin in your largest organ and needs to be taken care off just like our internal organs.

Made with only 4 ingredients.

My belief with most things that I put in or on my body is that I want it to be as chemical free as possible.  I think that when it comes down to it, it just makes sense to use a natural deodorant.  I did start out trying one of those all natural aluminum free deodorants I bought in the store and was pleased with it for a little while.  It did not have  a scent which I missed because I do enjoy smelling nice.  I did notice, however, that as the temperatures outside increased that it wasn’t cutting it anymore.  I found myself feeling like I was part of a television joke.

DIY Deodorant 2

I remember making deodorant in high school science class one time and we had to bring in those old black 35mm plastic film cases to store it in.  Did anyone else do that?  I couldn’t even tell you know what we made it out of at the time.  Old memory.  Anyway…

Cheaper than any store bought deodorant.

Smell no more.  I have been hooked on this homemade deodorant made with only 4 ingredients and it smells wonderful.  These are ingredients that I already had in my pantry.  If you do not already have these ingredients then it would be worth purchasing them because this deodorant is not only easy but it is so cheap to make yourself.  I’m sold and I hope you will be too.

Sara, I love that this deodorant only using 4 ingredients. I have a few questions about it..1. does it stop you from sweating through your clothes 2. does it leave white residue on your clothing. I’m definitely going to try making this. I’m pinning it, too.

btw ..can you please tell me what app or program you use to make the recipe box where you can let your readers print it out. Where can I find this to use on my blog? I really would appreciate it if you could let me know

    1. Hi Kim,

The deodorant will not stop sweat since it is aluminum and chemical free. In regular deodorant it is those chemicals that clog your pores which prevent sweat but I can tell you from personal experience that I have not been sweating through my clothes since using this deodorant. It will not leave a white reside on your clothing. I just use a little bit (about 1/4 tsp) and rub it well into my underarms. You don’t need much. The program I use for recipes is a plugin called Easy Recipe. You can also get a plug in called ziplist. Hope this helps.

  2. I was just looking at Primal Pit Paste to try then I remembered you posting this, this looks so easy to make and cheaper too. Thank you, I can’t wait to make it. 🙂
