Fruity Chia Shots

For those of you that love chia seeds as much as I do this post is for you.  For those of you that still have not tried chia seeds yet (you should) this post is for you.  Well this post is for everyone then.

Fruity Chia Shots

When I was at the store this weekend I saw these Chia Pods.  I looked at the ingredients on the package and saw that they were only made with 4 ingredients and NO SUGAR!  My first thought was that I had to try one.  I was a little skeptical but ended up loving it.  The fruit flavor really stood out and added just the right amount of sweetness.  It just goes to show you that you should not judge a food before you have tried it.  You may be pleasantly surprised.

Chia seeds have great health benefits and they are everywhere these days.  Chia seeds provide a great source of healthy Omega 3 fatty acids.  You can read more about these little seeds in my post Chia Seeds Are The Jam.  Side Note: Have you tried making jam with chia seeds?  It works so well and is so easy!  There is no need to be afraid of chia seeds.

Recipe Type: Snack

Prep time:
Total time:
Serves: 4
Any soft fruit will do for this recipe. You can use fresh or frozen and thawed. Peaches, cherries, blueberries, or strawberries are other flavors I want to try.
Ingredients
  • 1/2 Cup Water
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp + 1 tsp Chia Seeds
  • 1/2 Cup Fruit (I made 3 different kinds: Banana, Mango, Mixed Berry)
  • 2 Tbsp Coconut Milk
Instructions
  1. Mix the chia seeds into the water and allow to gel for about 10 minutes on the counter. (if it is not completely gel yet that is ok it will continue to get thicker even with the fruit and milk)
  2. Puree the fruit in a blender.
  3. Add the fruit and coconut milk into the chia gel.
  4. Mix well.
  5. Let sit in the fridge for about 30 minutes as it will get a bit thicker.
  6. You can adjust as you like after it has thickened (add more water to thin it or add more chia to thicken it).

Notes
These Chia Shots are not pudding thick or like gelatin. They are creamy and ment to be a bit soft. You can make it thicker or thiner as desired.
